What's my life motto?

November 3, 2026

Bismi Llāhir Raḥmānir Raḥīm Meaning: ‘In the name of Allāh, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful’. Allāh is the name of God Almighty.

So there’s this job posting website, right? Let’s call it “XYZ Jobs”. Did you know that under your profile, in the Personal Information tab, there’s an Objective section for your Career and Application Info? I didn’t and when I found out about it, I wanted to write something. I wanted something short and sweet so badYa Allāh! I sound like a junkie. Please forgive me, my Lord.. The point is that I wanted that short but ecstatic dose of dopamine – that feeling of instant gratification that every lowly person like me craves. So I typed it in:

To do as much good as possible.

But then I thought to myself, “Wait a minute! That sounds so arrogant. Who says that I’ll stay upon goodness or that I’ll even have the means or the enablement to?” Now, don’t get me wrong. Alḥamdu liLlāh walḥamdu liLlāh walḥamdu liLlāh – it’s really nice to have been given the desire to do good but it’s not necessarily permanent. States change. Feelings are fleeting. It’s easy to say things but hard to realize the very same.

So then I thought about it for a while and typed:

To do as much good as feasible, in the best way feasible, within my capacity and capability, with the grace of Allāh subḥanahu wa taʿālā.

Alright! That seemed more humble and realistic to me. As we all know, there is no ability to do good and no power to resist evil except with Allāh taʿālā. Still, as the sages have said, “Beware the maker of claims.” I am claiming that I want to do good and I do – but every maker of claim will be tested. That means it’d have been better if I had not said anything to begin with. Ya Allāh!

So I decided to change it further:

I think that it will be for the best if I can do as much good as feasible, in the best way feasible, with what Allāh subḥanahu wa taʿālā has bestowed upon this wretched and lowly slave out of His immense grace and mercy.

What we imagine may have little to do with what will be, or a lot to do with what will be – but we don’t know the future… Of course, Allāh taʿālā always knows best. So, it’s often better to stay quiet and work in peace. Right?

I know what you might be thinking, “You brought us here claiming to write about the motto of your life and all you did was blabber about your career objective!” Or perhaps, your tired of all my double-guessing of myself or something like that. No matter what it is, there’s something you must understand. This bold claim that I’ve maide is what I want my life motto to beRemember: Always beware of the maker of claims!.

Thank you for your time and patience. Bāraka Llāhu Fīk. As always, may peace be with you. ʾÃmīn.
